The Mississippi Development
Authority (MDA) is the State
of Mississippi’s lead economic and community development
agency. MDA's staff is engaged in providing services to
businesses, communities and workers in the state.
The agency is organized into three groups, Economic
Development, Asset Development and Administration and
Financial Services. The Economic Development Group
focuses its efforts in traditional business recruitment
and retention, community development, tourism
development and export development. The Asset
Development Group pursues innovative ways to develop
unique Mississippi assets such as cultural heritage,
natural resources and small town life styles. The
Administration and Financial Services Group oversees the
agency's financial and administrative responsibilities
and community development grant programs.

North Mississippi Industrial
Development Association
(NMIDA) is comprised of electrical power distributors
serving counties in northeast Mississippi. This agency's
primary purpose is to generate business and industry
prospects for the region through proactive and effective
marketing and promotion. It also serves to promote a
positive business image for northeast Mississippi,
coordinate economic development activities in the
region, gather and disseminate relevant information of
interest to business organizations, provide support for
state and local business organizations, and work toward
a stronger regional infrastructure and business climate.
NMIDA has a commitment to organizational excellence and
to improve leadership and communication across the
region. Leake County participates with NMIDA
through Central Electric Power Association. NMIDA

The
Metro-Jackson Economic
Development Alliance (MEDA) a
consortium of eight counties including Leake County,
functions as the marketing and economic development
entity for the Metro Jackson area and serves as the
facilitator for companies considering locating or
expanding in the metro area. The MetroJackson Chamber of
Commerce functions as the administrator for MEDA and
serves as the central clearinghouse for prospect
inquiries. In addition, each MEDA partner oversees
economic development and marketing programs for its
respective jurisdiction. Through these endeavors and
its continued efforts, MEDA’s primary goal is to make
Metro Jackson the premier location for business,
visitors, and residents.

Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is the
nation’s largest public power company, with 33,000
megawatts of dependable generating capacity. Through 158
locally owned distributors, TVA provides power to nearly
8.5 million residents of the Tennessee Valley. Central
Electric Power Association is TVA's local distributor.
TVA Economic Development is the source of information and
services in the seven-state TVA region: Tennessee,
Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky, Virginia, and

Central Electric Power
Association, an electric
cooperative that provides electric
service to parts of Attala County. Central Electric Power Association
serves mostly rural Attala County. Central Electric Power Association
is headquartered in Carthage,
Mississippi. Through CEPA's participation, Attala
County benefits from the resources of NMIDA, TVA, and
USDA Rural Utilities Service.

Electric Power Associations of
Mississippi (EPAMS)
Economic Development Department seeks to improve the
economy of areas served by electric power associations
while gaining the attention of members, public officials
and the general public. Primary activities include
attracting new businesses and industries to Mississippi
while assisting present operations in expansion
activities. Each year, staff members assist in the
location and expansion of many operations, which result
in hundreds of job opportunities for our members and a
quality of life second to none. The member associations
have provided the needed infrastructure of affordable
and reliable electric service which is imperative in
attracting and maintaining business, industry and other
developments in the areas they serve.

Attala County is served by Entergy Mississippi with headquarters in Jackson,
Mississippi. Entergy Mississippi employs a full
staff of economic development professionals ready to
assist existing and prospective businesses. They can provide
information on available existing buildings,
infrastructure, power usage estimates, and other utility
consultative services.

The Mississippi Economic
Development Council (MEDC) serves as
the voice for Mississippi's economic/community
development and chamber of commerce professionals and
their constituencies. Through collaboration with other
local, state and national entities, MEDC establishes and
advocates Mississippi's economic and community
development agenda. MEDC serves our members and
this agenda by fostering a network of trained
professionals and serving as the primary resource for
information and strategies for economic and community
development and the promotion of commerce. Our
purpose is to improve Mississippi's communities through
development of their resources.

Mississippi Manufacturers
Association (MMA) has been
the clear and unified voice of industry in Mississippi.
Industry is the engine that powers Mississippi’s
economy, and MMA is an unrelenting advocate in the
support of measurers benefiting manufacturers. MMA is
vigilant in its efforts to eliminate unfair, unnecessary
or costly burden on the operations of our state’s
manufacturing community. Practical, accurate
information is provided to members through committees,
seminars, workshops, regular publications and the
website.

(MEC), the State
Chamber of Commerce, deals with broad issues that relate
to Mississippi businesses. MEC pulls together coalitions
to make overall statewide progress, focuses on issues
with a bottom line return, focuses on fairness and
equity, and is building a base of involvement to have a
united business front. MEC is committed to building a
sense of statewide community.

Economic Development
Administration
(EDA) was
established under the Public Works and Economic
Development Act of 1965 (42 U.S.C. § 3121), as amended,
to generate jobs, help retain existing jobs, and
stimulate industrial and commercial growth in
economically distressed areas of the United States. EDA
assistance is available to rural and urban areas of the
Nation experiencing high unemployment, low income, or
other severe economic distress. In fulfilling its
mission, EDA is guided by the basic principle that
distressed communities must be empowered to develop and
implement their own economic development and
revitalization strategies. Based on these locally- and
regionally-developed priorities, EDA works in
partnership with state and local governments, regional
economic development districts, public and private
nonprofit organizations, and Indian tribes. EDA helps
distressed communities address problems associated with
long-term economic distress, as well as sudden and
severe economic dislocations including recovering from
the economic impacts of natural disasters, the closure
of military installations and other Federal facilities,
changing trade patterns, and the depletion of natural
resources.

USDA Rural Development
is committed to helping
improve the economy and quality of life in all of rural
America. Through many programs, Rural Development
touches rural America in many ways. The financial
programs support such essential public facilities and
services as water and sewer systems, housing, health
clinics, emergency service facilities and electric and
telephone service. USDA promotes economic development by
supporting loans to businesses through banks and
community-managed lending pools. USDA offers technical
assistance and information to help agricultural and
other cooperatives get started and improve the
effectiveness of their member services. USDA provides
technical assistance to help communities undertake
community empowerment programs. Rural Development
achieves its mission by helping rural individuals,
communities and businesses obtain the financial and
technical assistance needed to address their diverse and
unique needs. Rural Development works to make sure that
rural citizens can participate fully in the global
economy.

The
Central Mississippi Planning
and Development District
(CMPDD) is a sub-state regional planning organization
serving the governments of counties in Central
Mississippi. CMPDD is a non-profit corporation concerned
with meeting the ever-changing needs of its seven member
counties and thirty-three municipalities. The District
promotes area-wide progress through regional planning
and development concepts in such areas as local
planning, governmental management, and human resource
coordination. CMPDD manages the West Mississippi Federal
Renewal Community information for Attala County.
